Your website can show what happens in your space without anyone updating it by hand. You pick what to show in Joyn, copy a piece of code, and paste it where it should appear on your site. From then on, what you post in Joyn is what the site shows.
There are three things you can put on your site:
- Upcoming events: a list of your next public events, each opening its own page where visitors can register.
- News: the latest posts from a public announcement channel, so you post once in Joyn instead of twice.
- Join card: your space's name, number of members and a button to join.
You need the Manage space permission for the Website tab, and Manage channel on a channel to make it public. The code is made in the web app; the mobile app has no Website tab yet.
Before you start
Events and the Join card show what your public page shows, so the page has to be on. See Give your space a public page.
News needs a public announcement channel instead, and does not need the page. See Make a channel public below.
Get the code
- Open Settings and go to Website.
- Pick what to show: Upcoming events, News or Join card.
- Set the options above the preview. For events: how many to show, the language, the colors and whether to end with a Join button. For news: which channel, or All news, and how many posts. Language and colors apply to all three.
- Check the preview. It is the real thing, at the width a website gives it.
- Click Copy code.
The language setting only changes the embed's own labels. Event names, places and posts show as you wrote them.
Match visitor under colors follows the visitor's light or dark setting. Pick Light or Dark if your site is always one or the other.
Paste it on your site
Paste the code into a block that takes HTML. Where that is depends on your website system:
- Klubmodul: edit the CMS page and insert the code through the editor's HTML or source view.
- WordPress: add a Custom HTML block.
- Squarespace: add a Code block.
- Wix: add an Embed HTML element.
- Google Sites: choose Embed, then Embed code.
Save and open the page. The frame grows to fit its content. If your site strips scripts from pasted code, the frame keeps the fixed height instead, and visitors scroll inside it.
Make a channel public
The News embed and the News tab on your public page show posts from announcement channels you have made public. Only the space's own announcement channels can be public, not a group's.
- Open the channel and go to its Settings.
- Under Edit channel, switch on Public and click Save changes.
On the mobile app, the switch is under Visibility in the channel's settings and saves as soon as you flip it.
Anyone can then read the channel's posts, search engines too, and that includes posts made before you switched it on. Who wrote a post is never shown. Polls, questions, replies and reactions stay inside the space.
Switch Public off to make the channel members-only again. A site that still shows it falls back to "No news yet".
What visitors can do
Every link in the embed opens in a new tab on Joyn, so your site stays where the visitor left it. Registering for an event or joining the space happens there, never inside the frame.
Change it later
The options are in the code, so to change the number of events or the language, make a new code in Website and paste it over the old one. Turning off the public page or a channel's Public switch takes effect on your site straight away.
