Create and manage groups

Groups are smaller circles inside a space with their own channels, events and files. Here is how to create one and run it.

A group is a smaller circle inside your space: a team, a committee, a class, a board. Each group has its own channels, events and files, and only the people in the group see them. The rest of the space carries on as before.

Create a group

  1. Open Groups in the space sidebar and click New group.
  2. Type a Group name and create it.

You need the Manage groups permission to create groups. Owners and admins have it; members can be given it under Permissions.

Add people

  1. Open the group and go to People.
  2. Click Add users, tick the members you want and confirm.

Only people who are already in the space can be added. Invite them to the space first if they are not.

What a group contains

  • Channels - click New channel in the group to add chat, announcements, a to-do list or a board that only the group sees.
  • Events - events created inside the group are for its members. Group events still show on everyone's own calendar.
  • Files - a separate drive. Folders created here are visible to the group only, and the folder tells you so when you create it.

Leave or delete a group

To leave, open the group's menu and choose Leave group. You can be added again later.

To delete a group, open its settings and choose delete. Everything inside it is removed for everyone, so move any files you want to keep first.
