๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Members & roles

Share the work, keep control

Every community has a coach, a treasurer and a board. In Joyn you make those roles yourselves and decide, switch by switch, what each one can do. Everyone else gets the member defaults you set.

How it works

From one admin to a whole team

  1. 01

    Invite your members

Share your invite link, print it as a QR poster for the clubhouse, or send email invitations.

  2. 02

    Create the roles you have

Coach, Treasurer, Board - give each a name and a colour, then turn on what it may do.

  3. 03

    Hand them out

Add people to a role. Someone with several roles gets everything those roles allow.

๐ŸŽš๏ธ

Roles and permissions

Exactly the access each job needs

A new space starts with just Owner and Member. From there you build the roles that match how you actually run things, and every permission is one switch on the role.

  • โœ“

Create events, edit events, upload files, invite people

  • โœ“

Manage channels, groups, roles or the space itself

  • โœ“

Manage subscription, so the treasurer handles plan, card and invoices

  • โœ“

Member defaults on Everyone decide what a plain member can do

Group admins

Every team can run its own corner

Groups have their own admins and members. The admins of the under-12s decide who joins and what members may do there, without needing a say over the whole community.

  • โœ“

Several admins per group, the creator is the first

  • โœ“

Group defaults for adding people, managing members and channels

  • โœ“

Renaming a group or changing who's admin stays with its admins

  • โœ“

A space role with Manage groups can step in anywhere

The details that keep it tidy

๐Ÿ”

Search and filter

Find anyone by name, or filter the member list to the owner or a single role.

โœ‰๏ธ

Invite by link, poster or email

A link that never expires, a QR poster to print, and a link per poster so you can see who joined from where.

๐Ÿ’ณ

Billing for the treasurer

Manage subscription lets someone other than the owner change the plan and update the card.

๐Ÿ‘€

View all groups

Let the board see every group, private ones too. Opening one still needs an invite.

๐Ÿ”‘

Transfer ownership

When the chair steps down, the owner hands the space to someone else in a few taps.

๐Ÿšช

Remove members

Give a role the right to remove people, or keep it with the owner.

โ†•๏ธ

Role order and colours

Sort roles by importance and give each a colour, so you can tell them apart at a glance.

๐Ÿ‘‹

Open join, if you want

With a public page, newcomers can join in one tap. Or keep it invite only.

๐Ÿค–

Bots start with nothing

An integration's bot never inherits member defaults or group permissions. Paid plans.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ

Who it's for

For communities with more than one leader

โšฝ

Clubs

Coaches run their own teams, the board sees everything and the treasurer pays the bill.

โ›ช

Churches

Small group leaders admin their groups, staff create events and the treasurer looks after billing.

๐Ÿค

Associations

The board shares settings and invitations, committees run their own groups.

Good to know

What Joyn doesn't do

Better to know now than after you've moved everyone over.

!

Not a membership register.

Joyn doesn't collect membership fees or keep a register for your accounts. Keep your membership system for that.

!

One owner per space.

Ownership can be handed over, never shared. Give a second person a role with the permissions they need instead.

Questions about members and roles

Which roles come with a new space?

+

Only Owner and Member. You create every other role yourselves, with your own name, colour and permissions. A space can have up to 50 roles.

Can the treasurer handle billing without being the owner?

+

Yes. Give the treasurer a role with Manage subscription. They can then change the plan, update the payment card, see invoices or cancel, without owning the space.

What can a plain member do?

+

Whatever you switch on for Everyone. A new space lets members create events, upload files and invite people. You can turn each of those off, or turn more on.

How do groups fit in?

+

Each group has admins and members. Group admins decide what members may do in that group. A space role with Manage groups can run every group, and View all groups shows private groups without letting anyone in.

What happens when the owner steps down?

+

The owner transfers ownership to another member. The old owner stays in the space as a member, with any roles they had.

Is it free?

+

Roles and permissions are part of every plan, including Free for up to 100 members. Bigger communities pay per person on Team or one flat price on Community.

Stop being the only admin

Create your space, make the roles you already have and hand them out. The work spreads out from day one.
